📜 History & origin
Persians were first documented in hieroglyphics from 1684 BC and are believed to have originated in the high plateaus of Iran. They were introduced to Europe by an Italian nobleman, Pietro della Valle, in the 17th century, and quickly became favourites of royalty and nobility. Their peke-face (ultra-flat) form was selectively bred during the 20th century.
🧼 Care & grooming
Daily grooming is non-negotiable — their dense double coat mats quickly without brushing. Wipe eye corners daily to prevent staining from their flat face tear ducts. Keep indoors; they are not street-smart cats.
🩺 Health notes
Prone to Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), and breathing difficulties due to their flat brachycephalic face. DNA testing can screen for PKD. Regular dental checks are important.
