Freya

Freya was a brown tabby who lived at 11 Downing Street during George Osborne's time as Chancellor of the Exchequer, sharing the government's most famous address with Larry, the Chief Mouser at Number 10. Originally the Osborne family pet, Freya had gone missing for a period before being reunited with the family and moving into Downing Street, where she quickly became a well-known figure to Whitehall staff and the press. She developed a reputation as an intrepid and independent wanderer, frequently spotted patrolling the streets around Westminster far from home, and — much to the tabloids' delight — was sometimes cast as Larry's rival in a good-natured "turf war" between the two government cats. Her adventures came to an end in 2014 when, for her own safety after a couple of road incidents in the busy heart of London, she was rehomed to a quieter life in the countryside. Freya remains one of the best-loved of Britain's modern political cats, a reminder that even the corridors of power run a little more smoothly with a cat in residence.
