Garfi is a bright ginger Persian from Turkey whose photographs made him a viral sensation as 'the world's angriest cat'. In image after image he glowers at the camera with a scowl of such theatrical fury that he looks perpetually outraged by everything around him.
The truth, as his owner Hulya Ozkok has explained, is that Garfi is a perfectly content and affectionate pet. His fearsome look is simply the natural set of his flat-faced Persian features combined with piercing, wide-set eyes — an accident of feline anatomy rather than any genuine bad temper. Photographed in the right light, that face reads as pure, concentrated rage.
Often compared to the fictional comic-strip cat Garfield and to the later phenomenon of Grumpy Cat, Garfi became a favourite of internet listicles and photo round-ups, proving once again that a cat's expression can launch a thousand memes.
