🧺 Ingredients

  • 100 g cooked salmon, skin and bones removed, flaked
  • 1 tsp chia seeds, soaked in 1 tbsp water until gel-like
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp plain cooked mashed potato or pumpkin, to bind

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan) and line a small tray with parchment.
  2. Soak the chia seeds in water for about 10 minutes until they swell into a soft gel.
  3. Mash the flaked salmon with the egg, chia gel and mashed potato or pumpkin into a thick, sticky paste.
  4. Drop small teaspoons of the mixture onto the tray and flatten each into a little disc.
  5. Bake for about 15 minutes until set and lightly golden, then cool completely before serving one or two; keep the rest refrigerated for up to three days.
Nutrition: Salmon is rich in the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA that support skin and coat condition, while a small amount of soaked chia adds a little extra omega-3 and soluble fibre — a treat built around a healthy, glossy coat.

📝 Notes

Use plain cooked salmon with every bone carefully removed — never raw salmon, which can carry parasites, and never smoked or salted fish. Offer as an occasional treat, not a daily meal.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
