🧺 Ingredients

  • 150g fresh salmon fillet (skin removed, deboned)
  • 40g cooked quinoa
  • 1 tbsp steamed and mashed carrot
  • 1 tsp salmon oil
  • 2 tbsp water or unsalted bone broth

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Poach the salmon in gently simmering water for 8–10 minutes until it flakes and is cooked through.
  2. Check meticulously for bones, then flake the flesh into small pieces.
  3. Rinse and cook the quinoa in unsalted water until soft and the germ uncoils.
  4. Steam and mash a little carrot until completely smooth.
  5. Fold the salmon, quinoa and carrot together, loosening with water or bone broth to a soft consistency.
  6. Drizzle salmon oil over the top just before serving and stir through.
Nutrition: Rich in EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids that support skin barrier function and coat shine. Quinoa adds gentle fibre and plant protein; carrot contributes beta-carotene.

📝 Notes

Salmon should always be cooked, never raw, to destroy parasites and neutralise thiaminase. Store in the fridge for up to 3 days. Serve as a topper or occasional meal, not a sole diet — it is not fully balanced without a supplement.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
