Whitefish & Courgette Kitten Mash
An extra-soft, moist mash of gently poached white fish and a little courgette, sized down for weaning kittens and toothless senior cats alike.
- Difficulty
- Easy
- Time
- 20 min
- Makes
- 2 days
🧺 Ingredients
- 70g plain white fish such as pollock or haddock, skinned and boned
- 1 teaspoon peeled, cooked, finely mashed courgette
- 3 tablespoons plain water or a little kitten milk replacer, to make a smooth mash
👩🍳 Method
- Poach the white fish gently in plain water until it flakes, then cool it fully.
- Flake the fish and press it through your fingers to find and remove every last bone.
- Peel and cook a little courgette until very soft, cool it, and mash to a smooth pulp.
- Blend the fish and courgette with enough water or kitten milk replacer to make a very soft, almost pourable mash.
- Offer at room temperature in a shallow saucer; refrigerate leftovers and use within two days.
Nutrition: White fish is lean, moist and highly digestible, making it gentle on developing or ageing tummies, while a trace of courgette adds hydration and a little gentle fibre.
📝 Notes
This is a supplementary treat and transition food, not a complete diet — growing kittens need a properly balanced kitten food as their staple. Warm slightly to body temperature for weaning kittens, who prefer food that smells like their mother's milk, and always supervise first tastes.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
