🧺 You will need
- A small, clean plastic drinks bottle with the cap removed
- A few dry biscuits or a small bell to rattle inside (optional)
- A sheet of crinkly paper or a clean crisp-packet-style wrapper
- Strong tape
🔧 How to make it
- Rinse and fully dry a small plastic bottle, and take the cap and ring off completely.
- Drop a couple of biscuits or a small bell inside if you want it to rattle as it rolls.
- Wrap the bottle in a sheet of crinkly paper and tape it securely so no loose ends stick out.
- Squeeze gently to check it crackles, then roll it across the floor to show your cat.
- Retire and replace the wrapper once it is torn or flattened so the crinkle stays satisfying.
💡 Tips
The combination of noise and unpredictable rolling taps straight into a cat's prey drive. Because it is so light, a single paw-swat sends it skittering, which is exactly the kind of erratic movement that keeps a cat chasing.
Safety: Always remove the cap and plastic ring, which are choking hazards, and supervise play. Replace the toy at the first sign your cat is biting through to the paper or plastic, and never leave it out unsupervised.
