Repurposed Guitar-Case Cat Bed
A retired hard case makes a rock-star nap nook
The rigid shell of an old hard-shell instrument case is a ready-made, cat-sized hideaway — clean it out, add a cushion, and you have a bed with real character.
- Difficulty
- Easy
- Time
- 20 minutes
- Cost
- Free–£5
🧺 You will need
- 1 old hard-shell instrument case (guitar, violin, etc.)
- A cushion or folded blanket cut to fit the interior
- Optional: adhesive felt pads for the base
🔧 How to make it
- Clean the inside of the case thoroughly and let it air out to clear any musty or chemical smell.
- Remove any loose foam, fittings or hardware a cat could pry off and chew.
- Either take the lid off completely or prop it fully open and secure it so it can never swing shut.
- Lay the cushion or folded blanket inside.
- Stick felt pads underneath so the case does not slide, then place it in a quiet corner.
💡 Tips
A case stood upright with the lid removed also makes a fun vertical perch. Line it with an old jumper the cat already sleeps on.
Safety: Never leave a lid that can fall closed — a self-shutting case is a serious trapping hazard. Remove sharp latches and any chewable foam first.
📝 Notes
Wipe the shell clean and wash the cushion cover regularly.
