📜 History & origin
The Highland Lynx is a modern American breed created around 1993 by crossing the Desert Lynx with the curl-eared Jungle Curl, combining a wild spotted-and-rosetted appearance with distinctive backward-curling ears. Despite the name, it is an entirely domestic cat with no recent wild ancestry. Many Highland Lynx are also polydactyl, carrying extra toes. The breed is recognised by several smaller registries and prized as an energetic, affectionate companion.
🧼 Care & grooming
This is a high-energy, highly intelligent cat that needs a great deal of interactive play, climbing structures, and mental enrichment to stay happy. Many enjoy water and will join you at the tap or tub. The short-to-medium coat needs only weekly brushing. Their curled ears should be checked and gently cleaned regularly, as the shape can trap wax.

As a young breed with a limited gene pool, responsible breeders screen carefully and outcross to maintain vigour. The ear-curl and polydactyl genes are generally benign when bred responsibly. Routine veterinary care, dental hygiene, and attention to the curled ears keep the breed in good health.
