📜 History & origin
The Serrade Petit is a rare natural breed originating in France, where small, fine-boned shorthaired cats of this type have long existed in rural regions. Efforts to recognise and standardise it as a distinct breed are relatively recent, and it remains extremely uncommon, scarcely known beyond a handful of French enthusiasts and not yet widely recognised by the major international registries. Its name reflects its modest size — 'petit' meaning small — and the breed is prized in its homeland for its affectionate, undemanding nature rather than any exotic appearance.
🧼 Care & grooming
The short, close-lying coat is wonderfully easy to look after, needing only an occasional brush and the odd wipe with a damp hand to keep its natural shine. The Serrade Petit is an active, sociable cat that bonds closely with its family, so daily interactive play, companionship and a little climbing space matter far more to its wellbeing than any grooming routine. It adapts well to indoor life.
🩺 Health notes
As a naturally developed breed without extreme physical features, the Serrade Petit is generally hardy and not linked to any well-documented inherited disorders. Its rarity means breeders must take particular care to maintain genetic diversity. Standard preventive care — vaccination, parasite control, dental hygiene and good nutrition — is all that is usually required to keep one healthy.
