📜 History & origin
The Seychellois was developed in the United Kingdom in the 1980s by geneticist Patricia Turner, who set out to recreate the distinctive white-with-coloured-patches cats reported from the Seychelles islands. Using Oriental, Siamese and bicolour lines, she established a slender foreign-type cat carrying the piebald 'van' pattern. The GCCF granted the breed preliminary recognition; it remains rare. Three grades are described — Seychellois Neuvième, Huitième and Septième — according to how much colour the cat carries.
🧼 Care & grooming
Both the shorthair and longhair varieties have low-maintenance coats that need only weekly grooming. What the Seychellois really demands is company and stimulation: like its Siamese relatives it is intensely people-oriented, extremely vocal, and unhappy if left alone for long. Interactive play, climbing space and a feline companion all help.
🩺 Health notes
Being closely related to the Siamese and Oriental Shorthair, the Seychellois can share some of their predispositions, including dental issues and, in some lines, progressive retinal atrophy and heart conditions. Its small gene pool makes buying from a conscientious breeder who screens breeding cats especially important.
