📜 History & origin
The Toybob is a naturally occurring dwarf breed that emerged in Russia in the late 20th century, beginning with a small short-tailed cat noticed in the 1980s. Unlike breeds bred down in size through cross-breeding, the Toybob's diminutive stature arose spontaneously and is maintained as a genuine miniature — adults are roughly the size of a half-grown kitten of an ordinary breed. Russian breeders developed and stabilised the line, and it has since gained recognition from registries including TICA. It remains rare worldwide, valued as much for its sweet, undemanding character as for its remarkable size.
🧼 Care & grooming
The plush coat is low-maintenance, needing a weekly brush (a little more if semi-long). Despite its tiny frame the Toybob is active and playful, enjoying gentle interactive games and climbing, but it is not a demanding or destructive cat. Its small size means care should be taken around boisterous larger pets and very young children, and a watch kept on its weight, since on such a little body even a small excess shows.
🩺 Health notes
Importantly, the Toybob's small size comes from healthy natural selection rather than the dwarfism gene seen in some short-legged breeds, so it is well-proportioned and generally hardy with no major breed-specific conditions documented. Sensible routine care — vaccination, parasite control, dental hygiene and good nutrition — and a responsible breeder are, as ever, the foundations of a long life.
