Cake is a magical, elastic cat from the animated series Adventure Time, introduced as part of a gender-swapped version of the show's world. Where the original stars are the human boy Finn and his shape-shifting dog Jake, this alternate universe swaps them for the adventurer Fionna and her cat, Cake — Cake standing in as the feline equivalent of Jake, right down to a talent for stretching her body into any shape she needs.

First appearing in 2011, Cake proved so popular that the characters returned again and again, eventually anchoring their own spin-off series. She is written as fiercely protective of Fionna, quick-witted and a little sardonic, blending the independence people associate with cats with the warmth of a devoted best friend. Her stretchy powers let her become a hammock, a parachute, a slingshot or a giant, making her as useful in a scrape as she is funny.

Voiced with real personality, Cake became a favourite among fans of the show, celebrated for combining classic cartoon-cat sass with genuine heart. As the counterpart to one of animation's best-loved sidekicks, she stands among the most recognisable fictional cats of modern television.

Fun fact: Cake was created as the cat counterpart to Jake the Dog for Adventure Time's gender-swapped universe, and proved popular enough to eventually headline her own spin-off series alongside Fionna.
