🧺 Ingredients

  • 100 g lean beef mince (no seasoning, no onion or garlic)
  • 1 tablespoon cooked, mashed sweet potato (plain, no butter or salt)
  • A little plain water or unsalted bone broth to loosen

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Dry-fry or gently poach the beef mince in a non-stick pan until fully cooked through, breaking up any clumps.
  2. Drain off all the fat and let the meat cool to lukewarm.
  3. Steam or bake a piece of sweet potato until soft, then mash a tablespoon of it smooth.
  4. Fold the mashed sweet potato through the cooked beef.
  5. Loosen to a soft, spoonable texture with a little water or unsalted bone broth.
  6. Serve a small spoonful at room temperature as a topper; refrigerate the rest and use within two days.
Nutrition: Lean beef is a rich source of highly digestible animal protein, iron and B-vitamins, while a small amount of sweet potato adds gentle soluble fibre and beta-carotene that can help firm up stools and make the meal easy on a sensitive stomach.

📝 Notes

This is a treat or topper, not a complete diet — offer it alongside a balanced cat food rather than in place of it. Keep the sweet potato to a small amount, as cats are obligate carnivores and need very little carbohydrate. Never add onion, garlic, salt or gravy granules, all of which are harmful to cats.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
