Makes
3–4 topper portions

🧺 Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp dried black soldier fly larvae meal (food-grade insect protein)
  • 50 g cooked minced chicken or turkey, skinless and unseasoned
  • 2 tbsp cooked, mashed sweet potato
  • 1 tsp salmon oil
  • Unsalted bone broth or warm water, to loosen

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Rehydrate the larvae meal in a little warm water for about 5 minutes until softened.
  2. Mash the cooked poultry and sweet potato together in a bowl.
  3. Stir in the rehydrated larvae meal and the salmon oil.
  4. Add unsalted broth or warm water a splash at a time until you have a soft mince you can spoon over food.
  5. Serve a small portion warm; refrigerate the rest.
Nutrition: Black soldier fly larvae are a low-footprint protein naturally high in lauric acid and calcium. The poultry supplies taurine, and sweet potato adds beta-carotene and a little fibre.

📝 Notes

Keep in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze in portions. This is a topper, not a complete meal — spoon it over your cat's usual balanced food. Introduce gradually over several days.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
