🧺 Ingredients
- 1 boneless, skinless chicken breast
- 1 small carrot, peeled and finely diced
- Unsalted water or plain chicken broth (no onion, garlic or salt)
👩🍳 Method
- Place the chicken breast and diced carrot in a pan and cover with unsalted water or cat-safe broth.
- Simmer gently for about 15 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and the carrot is very soft.
- Lift out the chicken, let it cool, then shred it finely with two forks.
- Return the shredded chicken to the pan and mash the carrot into the broth.
- Cool to room temperature and serve as a soupy meal or topper, keeping the extra hydration the broth provides.
- Refrigerate leftovers for up to three days.
Nutrition: Lean chicken supplies easily digestible protein, while the broth adds valuable moisture — useful for cats that drink too little or need tempting to eat during recovery. Soft carrot contributes gentle fibre and beta-carotene.
📝 Notes
Never use shop-bought stock cubes or human broths, which are loaded with salt and often contain onion and garlic — both toxic to cats. This stew is a comfort food and hydration booster, not a complete diet, so serve it alongside your cat's usual balanced food.
