Goat & Butternut Novel-Protein Mince
Lean goat meat, one of the least common proteins a cat will ever encounter, cooked simply with a little butternut squash for an easy-to-digest novel-protein treat.

- Easy
- Time
- 30 min
- Makes
- 4 small servings
🧺 Ingredients
- 100 g lean goat mince or finely diced goat meat, unseasoned
- 1 tablespoon plain cooked, mashed butternut squash
- A little plain water to loosen
👩🍳 Method
- Cook the goat meat gently in a dry non-stick pan over a low-medium heat with no oil or seasoning.
- Keep going until it is cooked all the way through with no pink remaining.
- Drain off any fat and let it cool to lukewarm.
- Fold the mashed butternut squash through the cooked meat.
- Add a little plain water to reach a soft texture and serve a small portion.
- Store leftovers in the fridge and use within two days.
Nutrition: Goat meat is lean and high in protein with useful iron and B12, and a little butternut squash contributes beta-carotene and gentle fibre.
📝 Notes
Goat is a lean red meat that very few cats have ever eaten, so it is a strong choice when you need a genuinely novel protein for an elimination trial or a fussy eater. Serve it plain and fully cooked, avoid all seasoning, and keep the portion small — an occasional treat alongside a complete, balanced diet, never a meal replacement. Introduce any new protein gradually to watch for tummy upset.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
