🧺 Ingredients

  • 100 g lean wild boar mince (or finely chopped boar meat), no seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon plain cooked, mashed pumpkin (not pie filling)
  • A little plain water to loosen

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Break the boar mince up in a dry non-stick pan over a low-medium heat with no oil, salt or seasoning.
  2. Cook it right through until there is no pink left, stirring so it browns evenly.
  3. Tip off any fat and let the meat cool to lukewarm.
  4. Stir the plain mashed pumpkin through the cooked boar.
  5. Loosen with a little plain water to a soft, spoonable texture and serve a small amount.
  6. Refrigerate leftovers in a sealed tub and use within two days.
Nutrition: Wild boar is a lean, high-protein red meat rich in B vitamins, iron and zinc, while a spoon of pumpkin adds gentle soluble fibre to support smooth digestion.

📝 Notes

Wild boar is a true novel protein, which makes it useful for a cat trialling a limited-ingredient diet or one that has grown bored of chicken and fish. Cook it thoroughly — as with all pork-family meats it must never be served raw — and keep it plain: no onion, garlic or seasoning. Treats like this should stay under a tenth of daily calories and never replace a complete, balanced diet.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
