- 3–4 small servings
🧺 Ingredients
- 100 g lean lamb mince (no seasoning)
- 1 tablespoon cooked, mashed carrot
- A little plain water to loosen
👩🍳 Method
- Dry-fry or poach the lamb mince gently until fully cooked, breaking up the clumps.
- Drain off all the fat thoroughly and let the meat cool to lukewarm.
- Steam a little carrot until soft and mash it.
- Fold the mashed carrot through the cooked lamb.
- Loosen to a soft texture with a spoonful of plain water.
- Serve a small amount at room temperature; refrigerate and use within two days.
Nutrition: Lamb is a palatable red meat rich in protein, iron, zinc and B-vitamins, and can be a useful alternative protein for cats bored of poultry, while a little carrot adds gentle fibre and beta-carotene.
📝 Notes
Lamb is richer and fattier than poultry, so drain the fat well and offer only small amounts as an occasional topper alongside a balanced diet. As always, cook plainly with no onion, garlic, salt or seasoning.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
