Trout & Pumpkin Omega Mash
Flaked poached trout folded through a little pumpkin purée — an omega-rich, fibre-friendly topper for a shiny coat and a settled gut.

- Time
- 20 min
- Makes
- 2–3 small servings
🧺 Ingredients
- 80 g fresh trout fillet (skinless, boneless)
- 1 tablespoon plain cooked pumpkin purée (not pie filling)
- A little plain cooking water to moisten
👩🍳 Method
- Poach or steam the trout in plain water until it flakes easily.
- Cool the fish, then flake it carefully, removing every bone.
- Fold the plain pumpkin purée through the flaked trout.
- Loosen with a spoonful of the plain cooking water to a soft, moist texture.
- Serve a small spoonful at room temperature as a topper.
- Refrigerate any extra and use within one day, as oily fish spoils quickly.
Nutrition: Trout supplies long-chain omega-3 fatty acids that support skin, coat and joints, while a spoonful of pumpkin adds soluble fibre that can help firm up stools and keep digestion regular.
📝 Notes
Oily fish is a treat, not a staple — offer only occasionally and in small amounts. Use plain 100% pumpkin, never sweetened or spiced pie filling, and check obsessively for bones before serving.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
