🧺 Ingredients

  • 80 g cooked mackerel (fresh, or tinned in spring water, well drained)
  • 1 small egg, hard-boiled
  • 1 tbsp plain cooked mashed potato or pumpkin, to bind

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Flake the cooked mackerel carefully, checking for and removing every small bone.
  2. Mash the hard-boiled egg and combine it with the fish.
  3. Add just enough mashed potato or pumpkin to bring the mixture together.
  4. Shape into small bite-sized balls.
  5. Chill for 20 minutes before serving.
Nutrition: Oily fish like mackerel is a natural source of omega-3 fatty acids that support skin and coat condition, while egg adds complete protein and a little biotin — nutrients often linked with a glossy coat.

📝 Notes

Use mackerel tinned in spring water, never brine or oil, and drain it well to keep salt down. Oily fish is a treat, not a staple — too much can upset vitamin E balance over time, so offer these now and then rather than daily. Check meticulously for bones. Keeps refrigerated for up to 2 days.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
