🧺 Ingredients

  • 1 skinless, boneless pollock fillet (about 100 g)
  • 1 tbsp finely mashed cooked carrot
  • A splash of plain water to loosen

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Steam the pollock over simmering water for 6–8 minutes, until it turns opaque and flakes apart.
  2. Cool it, then check it over carefully and lift out any bones.
  3. Steam the carrot until very soft and mash it to a smooth paste.
  4. Flake the pollock finely and fold through just a little of the mashed carrot.
  5. Add a splash of water if needed, and serve at room temperature.
Nutrition: Pollock is a lean source of protein and iodine with very little fat, while a small amount of carrot adds beta-carotene and gentle fibre without many calories.

📝 Notes

Pollock is a lean, low-fat white fish, which makes it a good occasional treat for cats managing their weight. Keep carrot to a small amount — it is a supporting vegetable, not a main ingredient. As with all fish, remove every bone and never add salt or oil. Keeps covered in the fridge for up to 2 days.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
