- Makes
- Makes 1 small loaf (about 8 slices)
🧺 Ingredients
- 120 g lean minced turkey
- 1 tbsp plain full-fat cottage cheese
- 1 small egg, beaten
- 1 tbsp cooked, mashed pumpkin (optional, for binding)
👩🍳 Method
- Heat the oven to 170°C (fan 150°C) and lightly grease a small ramekin or mini loaf tin.
- Mix the minced turkey, cottage cheese, beaten egg and pumpkin into a soft, even mixture.
- Press it into the tin, smoothing the top so it cooks evenly.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, until firm and cooked all the way through with no pink left.
- Cool completely, then turn out and cut into small slices for serving.
Nutrition: Lean turkey provides muscle-supporting protein, egg adds high-quality protein and binding, and a little cottage cheese contributes calcium and casein protein in an easy, soft-textured form for recovering or older cats.
📝 Notes
Cottage cheese is only lightly lactose-y and most cats tolerate a small spoonful, but skip it if yours is sensitive to dairy. This is a treat, not a complete food — offer a slice or two at a time. Slices freeze well: layer between baking paper and freeze for up to a month, thawing single portions as needed.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
