🧺 Ingredients

  • 150 g minced rabbit (boneless, lean)
  • 1 tbsp cooked peas, mashed
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 tbsp plain water or unsalted bone broth

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan) and lightly oil a small loaf tin or ramekin.
  2. Mix the minced rabbit, mashed peas and beaten egg together with the water until evenly combined.
  3. Press the mixture into the tin and smooth the top so it cooks evenly.
  4. Bake for about 25–30 minutes until firmly set and cooked right through with no pink remaining.
  5. Cool completely, then slice into small cubes and serve a couple as a treat; refrigerate the rest for up to three days.
Nutrition: Rabbit is a lean, easily digested novel protein that is ideal for cats prone to food sensitivities, while a small amount of mashed pea adds gentle fibre and a little plant-based texture to bind the loaf without overloading it with carbohydrate.

📝 Notes

Use plain rabbit with no salt, onion or garlic, and make sure it is fully cooked through. Serve as an occasional treat or topper rather than a complete meal, and introduce a new protein like rabbit gradually in case of sensitivity.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
