- Fold the mashed sweet potato through the cooked rabbit, loosening with a little water or unsalted broth.
- Cool to room temperature and serve a small spoonful.
- Refrigerate leftovers and use within two days.
Nutrition: Rabbit is a lean, low-fat animal protein that many cats have never eaten before, making it a useful novel protein when trialling for food sensitivities, while a little mashed sweet potato adds soluble fibre, beta-carotene and a soft texture that appeals to fussy or recovering cats.
📝 Notes
Serve as an occasional treat or meal-topper rather than a complete diet. Rabbit is very lean, which makes it a popular 'novel protein' for elimination diets — but check every piece carefully for tiny bones. Keep it plain, with no salt, onion, garlic or seasoning.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
