🧺 Ingredients

  • 1 skinless, boneless salmon fillet (about 120 g), cooked and flaked
  • 2 tablespoons cooked green peas, mashed
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon plain cooked oats to bind

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F) and line a small loaf tin or ramekin with baking paper.
  2. Poach or steam the salmon until it flakes easily, then cool and check very carefully for bones.
  3. Mash the cooked peas and mix them with the flaked salmon, beaten egg and oats into a soft paste.
  4. Press into the tin and bake for about 20 minutes, until set and firm to the touch.
  5. Cool completely, then turn out and cut into small cubes.
  6. Refrigerate in an airtight tub and use within three days, or freeze the cubes for longer.
Nutrition: Salmon supplies the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA that support skin, coat and joint health, while a small amount of mashed pea adds gentle fibre and a little plant protein to hold the loaf together without relying on a heavy grain base.

📝 Notes

Serve as an occasional treat, not a full meal — homemade recipes are not nutritionally complete. Remove every bone and keep the salmon plain, with no salt, oil or seasoning. Introduce a spoonful at a time in case of a fish sensitivity, and skip peas entirely if your cat has been advised to avoid legumes.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
