Sardine & Oat Crunch Crackers
Crunchy little baked crackers of oat flour and mashed sardine — a fragrant, omega-rich treat cats go wild for.

- Medium
- Time
- 30 min
- Makes
- About 20 small crackers
🧺 Ingredients
- 1 tin sardines in spring water (about 120 g), drained
- 4 tbsp oat flour (or porridge oats blitzed fine), plus extra for rolling
- 1 egg
👩🍳 Method
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking tray with parchment.
- Mash the drained sardines thoroughly, removing any large bones.
- Mix in the egg and oat flour to form a stiff, slightly sticky dough, adding a little more oat flour if needed.
- Roll out on an oat-floured surface and cut or pinch into small, cat-bite-sized pieces.
- Bake for about 15–18 minutes until firm and golden, then cool completely before serving.
Nutrition: Sardines are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and naturally soft calcium-bearing bones, while oats add a little wholesome fibre, giving a crunchy treat with real nutritional value behind its irresistible fishy aroma.
📝 Notes
Choose sardines packed in spring water, never in brine or oil, and drain them well to keep salt low. These are treats, so offer only a few per day. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days, or freeze for longer.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
