🧺 Ingredients
- 150 g cooked lean turkey, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp peeled, cored apple, very finely grated
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp oat flour (or plain rolled oats blitzed fine)
👩🍳 Method
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking tray.
- Mix the finely chopped turkey with the grated apple.
- Beat in the egg, then stir in the oat flour to form a stiff, mouldable mixture.
- Roll pea-sized balls and flatten them slightly onto the tray, spacing them apart.
- Bake for 15–18 minutes until firm and lightly golden, then cool completely before serving.
- Offer one or two as a treat and store the rest.
Nutrition: Lean turkey delivers plenty of protein for a low-fat reward, while a trace of grated apple adds a natural sweetness and a little fibre without the sugar load of commercial treats.
📝 Notes
Apple flesh is safe for cats in tiny amounts, but never include the core or seeds, which contain harmful compounds. These are treats, so keep them under 10% of daily calories. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to a month.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
