👩🍳 Method
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan) and lightly oil a small loaf tin or ramekin.
- Soften the grated carrot briefly in a little water, then drain well.
- Combine the minced venison, cooked carrot and beaten egg, loosening with the water to a soft mixture.
- Press into the tin and bake for about 30 minutes until firmly set and cooked right through.
- Cool completely, slice into small cubes, and serve one or two as a treat; refrigerate the rest for up to three days.
Nutrition: Venison is a lean, iron-rich novel protein that many cats with sensitivities tolerate well, and a little cooked carrot adds soft texture, gentle fibre and beta-carotene, giving a hearty treat that is both satisfying and easy on the digestion.
📝 Notes
Use plain venison with no salt, onion, garlic or seasoning and cook it thoroughly. Introduce venison gradually as a novel protein, and serve these loaves as an occasional treat or topper rather than a complete diet.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
