🧺 Ingredients

  • 120 g skinless chicken breast
  • 2 tbsp cooked, mashed sweet potato
  • 2–3 tbsp of the plain chicken cooking water

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Poach the chicken breast gently in plain water until cooked right through with no pink remaining.
  2. Lift out the chicken, reserving the cooking water, and let it cool slightly before shredding finely.
  3. Mash the shredded chicken together with the cooked sweet potato.
  4. Loosen the mash to a soft, spoonable texture with a little of the reserved cooking water.
  5. Serve a small spoonful lukewarm as a topper and refrigerate any extra for up to two days.
Nutrition: Lean chicken provides highly digestible, muscle-supporting protein while a modest amount of sweet potato adds soft texture, gentle fibre and beta-carotene — a soothing, easy-to-eat combination for tempting fussy eaters or cats getting their appetite back after illness.

📝 Notes

Use plain chicken and plain sweet potato with no salt, butter, onion or garlic. Serve as an occasional topper over balanced food rather than a complete diet, and warm gently to body temperature to tempt a poorly or fussy cat.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
