- Makes
- 2–3 small servings
🧺 Ingredients
- 1 white fish fillet (cod, haddock or pollock), boneless
- 1 tbsp finely grated carrot
- Plain water for poaching (no salt, no oil)
👩🍳 Method
- Bring a shallow pan of plain water to a gentle simmer.
- Add the fish fillet and poach gently for 6–8 minutes until it flakes easily and is opaque throughout.
- Lift out, let it cool, and check carefully for any bones.
- Steam or microwave the grated carrot for a minute until soft, then cool.
- Flake the fish and toss through the soft carrot.
- Serve a spoonful over your cat's usual food or on its own as a treat.
Nutrition: White fish is a lean, easily digested protein that tempts poor appetites, while a little soft carrot adds moisture, fibre and beta-carotene without heaviness.
📝 Notes
Poaching in plain water keeps this very low in fat, which suits sensitive stomachs. Always double-check for bones. This is a topper, not a complete diet. Refrigerate leftovers up to 2 days and serve at room temperature — cats often refuse food straight from the fridge.
