Chicken & Parsley Fresh-Breath Bites
Lean baked chicken bound with a little egg and a scatter of fresh parsley — bite-sized treats with a hint of green to freshen a cat's breath.
- Difficulty
- Easy
- Time
- 30 min
- Makes
- About 20 small bites
🧺 Ingredients
- 150 g cooked chicken breast, very finely chopped or minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped
- 1 small egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon oat flour (or plain oats blitzed fine), to bind
👩🍳 Method
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking tray with parchment.
- Cook the chicken breast plainly until fully done, then chop or mince it very finely.
- Mix the chicken, finely chopped parsley, beaten egg and oat flour into a stiff, mouldable paste.
- Roll the mixture into small pea-sized balls and flatten each slightly on the tray.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes until firm and lightly golden, turning once halfway.
- Cool completely before offering one or two, and refrigerate the rest in an airtight tub for up to three days.
Nutrition: Chicken breast is a lean, highly digestible source of complete animal protein, while a pinch of fresh parsley adds a little vitamin C, vitamin K and chlorophyll that can help mask food odours on the breath — though nothing replaces proper dental care for lasting fresh breath.
📝 Notes
Use only a small amount of fresh parsley — a herb garnish, not a main ingredient — and avoid parsley in cats with kidney disease or in pregnant cats, where larger amounts are not advised. Keep these as an occasional treat rather than a meal, and skip them if your cat has a known egg or poultry sensitivity.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
