🧺 Ingredients

  • 1 skinless duck breast (about 120 g)
  • 4–5 fresh or unsweetened cranberries, finely mashed
  • 1 tbsp plain water

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Trim any visible fat from the duck breast and dice it small.
  2. Poach or gently pan-cook the duck without oil until cooked right through, about 12–15 minutes.
  3. Cool, then mince or shred the meat finely.
  4. Mash a few plain cranberries to a pulp and fold just a little through the duck with a splash of water.
  5. Roll into small bite-sized balls and chill before serving.
Nutrition: Duck offers a rich, novel source of protein and iron, while a small amount of cranberry adds antioxidants and a tartness some owners like to offer cats prone to urinary grumbles — always alongside, never instead of, veterinary advice.

📝 Notes

Duck is a useful novel protein for cats trialling a limited-ingredient diet. Use only plain, unsweetened cranberries and keep them to the small amount here — they are tart and acidic. These bites are a treat, not a treatment: if your cat has recurrent cystitis or urinary crystals, follow your vet's dietary plan rather than relying on cranberry. Keeps refrigerated for up to 2 days.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
