🧺 Ingredients
- 1 skinless, boneless white fish fillet such as cod (about 100 g)
- 1 egg white
- 1 tsp plain water
👩🍳 Method
- Preheat the oven to 170°C (340°F) and line a small tray with parchment.
- Steam the cod for 6–8 minutes until it turns opaque and flakes, then cool and check carefully for bones.
- Whisk the egg white with the water to soft peaks.
- Flake the fish very finely and fold it gently through the whipped white so it stays airy.
- Spoon small mounds onto the tray and bake for 10–12 minutes until set and just golden.
- Cool completely before serving — the bites firm up as they rest.
Nutrition: White fish and egg white are both lean, high-quality proteins with very little fat, making these a light, protein-rich reward for less active or overweight cats.
📝 Notes
Using only the egg white keeps these very low in fat, which suits cats on a weight-management plan. Always cook egg for cats — raw white contains avidin, which binds biotin. Remove every fish bone. Keeps in the fridge for up to 2 days.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
