🧺 Ingredients

  • 1 skinless, boneless haddock fillet (undyed — never smoked or dyed haddock)
  • 2 tbsp cooked, mashed sweet potato, no butter or seasoning
  • A splash of the plain poaching water

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Poach the haddock gently in plain water until it flakes easily, then lift it out and let it cool.
  2. Check the cooked fish over carefully with your fingers and remove every bone, however small.
  3. Flake the fish and fold it through the mashed sweet potato, loosening it with a spoonful of the poaching water to a soft, spoonable texture.
  4. Serve a few teaspoons at room temperature; refrigerate the rest and use within two days.
Nutrition: Haddock is a lean, highly digestible white fish that delivers plenty of protein for very little fat, while a small amount of sweet potato adds gentle fibre and beta-carotene to soothe and bulk a delicate digestion.

📝 Notes

Use only plain, undyed haddock — the bright yellow smoked kind is salted and not suitable for cats. Fish should be an occasional topper or treat rather than a complete diet, as it lacks the full balance of nutrients a cat needs every day.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
