- Makes
- 3 small portions
🧺 Ingredients
- 1 small skinless plaice fillet
- 1 tbsp cooked peas, mashed
- A little plain poaching water
👩🍳 Method
- Poach the plaice fillet in plain water for a few minutes until it turns opaque and flakes apart.
- Cool it, then run your fingers through the flesh to find and remove any fine bones.
- Mash the cooked peas well — cats digest them best when the tough skins are broken down — and fold them through the flaked fish.
- Moisten with a spoonful of poaching water and serve a small portion at room temperature.
Nutrition: Plaice is one of the leanest fish you can offer, giving a protein-rich, very low-fat treat that suits cats on a weight-management plan, while a little mashed pea adds a touch of fibre and antioxidants.
📝 Notes
Peas should only ever be a minor garnish, not a main ingredient — cats are obligate carnivores and thrive on meat and fish, not plant matter. Keep leftovers chilled and use within a day.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
