Pollock & Pea Light Flakes
Poached white pollock flaked through a few soft peas — a light, low-fat fish topper that is easy on the stomach and tempting for fussy eaters.
- Difficulty
- Easy
- Time
- 20 min
- Makes
- About 3 small portions
🧺 Ingredients
- 90 g pollock fillet, boneless and skinless
- 1 tbsp fresh or frozen peas, cooked until soft
- 1 tbsp of the plain poaching water, to moisten
👩🍳 Method
- Poach the pollock in plain water over a gentle heat until it turns opaque and flakes easily.
- Lift the fish out and set it aside to cool, keeping a spoonful of the cooking water.
- Cook the peas until soft and lightly mash them with a fork.
- Flake the cooled pollock carefully, checking closely and removing any small bones.
- Fold the flaked fish through the peas and loosen with a little of the reserved poaching water before serving a small amount.
Nutrition: Pollock is a very lean white fish, high in easily-digested protein and low in fat, which makes it gentle on the digestion and a good tempter for a cat off its food. The spoon of soft peas adds a little moisture and gentle fibre without weighing the dish down.
📝 Notes
A light choice for cats recovering from a rich meal or an upset tummy. Serve as an occasional topper rather than a daily staple, and refrigerate leftovers for up to two days.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
