Homemade cat food
Salmon & Carrot Omega Mash
Soft, spoonable salmon mashed with sweet cooked carrot — a bright, omega-rich meal-topper that tempts fussy eaters.
- Difficulty
- Easy
- Time
- 20 min
- Makes
- About 6 small portions
🧺 Ingredients
- 100 g cooked salmon, skin and bones removed
- 1 small carrot, cooked until soft
- 2 tbsp unsalted plain water or cooking liquid, to loosen
👩🍳 Method
- Poach or steam the salmon until fully cooked and opaque, then flake it and check carefully for bones.
- Cook the carrot until very soft and mash it smooth.
- Combine the flaked salmon and mashed carrot, adding a little plain water to reach a soft, spoonable texture.
- Serve a small spoonful on its own or as a topper over your cat's usual food.
- Refrigerate any extra and use within two days.
Nutrition: Salmon delivers omega-3 fatty acids for skin, coat and joint health, while soft carrot adds beta-carotene, moisture and a naturally sweet flavour that can coax a reluctant or recovering cat back to the bowl.
📝 Notes
Use plain cooked salmon with no salt, oil, onion or garlic, and remove every bone. Serve as an occasional topper rather than a complete diet, since it is not nutritionally balanced on its own. Cool to room temperature before offering.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
