Salmon & Courgette Omega Flakes
Flaked poached salmon with a little soft courgette — a light, omega-rich topper for a glossy coat and a summery appetite.
- Difficulty
- Easy
- Time
- 20 min
- Makes
- 2–3 small servings
🧺 Ingredients
- 80 g fresh salmon fillet (skinless, boneless)
- 1 tablespoon cooked, finely diced courgette
- A little plain cooking water to moisten
👩🍳 Method
- Poach or steam the salmon in plain water until it flakes easily.
- Cool the fish, then flake it carefully, checking for and removing every bone.
- Steam a little courgette until soft and finely dice or mash it.
- Fold the courgette gently through the flaked salmon.
- Loosen with a spoonful of the plain cooking water to a soft, moist texture.
- Serve a small spoonful at room temperature; refrigerate any extra and use within one day, as oily fish spoils quickly.
Nutrition: Salmon supplies long-chain omega-3 fatty acids that support skin, coat and joint health, while courgette is very low in calories and adds a little gentle fibre and moisture.
📝 Notes
Oily fish is a treat, not a staple — offer only occasionally and in small amounts, and never rely on it as a complete meal. Keep the courgette to a small spoonful and cook everything plainly with no salt, oil or seasoning.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
