🧺 Ingredients

  • 120 g lean ground venison
  • 2 tablespoons cooked, mashed sweet potato
  • 1 egg to bind

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F) and line a small loaf tin.
  2. Steam or bake the sweet potato until soft, then mash smooth and cool.
  3. Mix the venison, mashed sweet potato and egg into an even mixture.
  4. Press into the tin and bake for about 25 minutes, until firm and cooked through.
  5. Cool completely, turn out, and slice into small cubes.
  6. Refrigerate for up to three days or freeze the portions.
Nutrition: Venison is a very lean red meat and a genuine novel protein, useful when a cat has reacted to more common meats, while a spoonful of mashed sweet potato binds the loaf and adds beta-carotene and gentle fibre without a grain base.

📝 Notes

An occasional treat, not a balanced meal. Venison is a helpful novel protein for cats with sensitivities to chicken, beef or fish, but keep it plain and unseasoned. Sweet potato is a small carbohydrate accent only — cats have little need for carbohydrate, so keep the meat as the main share.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
